Radioactive iodine as an indicator in thyroid physiology

Between 1938 and 1942, Hertz along with significant contributions from others, provided original data on the role of radioactive iodine in studying thyroid physiology and treating pathology. Such seminal work laid the foundations in how we approach theranostics in other tumours today.

Available records have been gathered and presented below.

Part I: original seminal work

Part II: Iodine collection by normal and hyperplastic thyroid in rabits

Part IV: The metabolism of iodine in Graves’ disease

Part IV: The use of radioactive iodine therapy in hyperthyroidism
